Most of my country's 3kV to 66kV distribution networks use low-current grounding methods, i.e., neutral point non-effective grounding methods, including ungrounded neutral systems and neutral point grounding systems via arc suppression coils or high-resistance grounding. The advantage of neutral point non-effective grounding systems is that in most cases, the arc can be automatically extinguished and insulation restored when a single-phase ground fault occurs. However, in the event of a permanent ground fault, to prevent the fault from expanding due to increased voltage in the non-faulty phases, the faulty line must be identified and disconnected as quickly as possible. This raises the issue of single-phase ground fault line selection. This problem has not been well resolved for a long time, hindering the development of distribution network automation.

When a single-phase ground fault occurs in a low-current grounding system, this device has the function of automatic alarm and accurate fault line location. Its structure is more reasonable and lightweight, and it can be used for the renovation of old power plants and substations, as well as for newly built power plants and substations, directly forming an integrated automation system.
